{June 17, 2008}   I Want a New Phone!

While sitting at one of my favorite local Chinese restaurants this afternoon with my boyfriend, I noticed a pattern in my behavior–whether or not I need one, I always want a new cell phone about a year after purchasing the last one. Usually, this is purely because I have a fondness for new gadgets. This time, however, my desire for a new gadget was spurred by a need I had that my current phone was not meeting.

Namely, I want to be able to take notes effectively on my phone. Rather than having to carry around a notebook, or send myself text messages (which is just stupid), I wanted to have a rough equivalent to Notepad available to me, and an efficient means for inputting data–a keyboard.

With a vague idea that a PDA phone is just what I needed, I bullied my boyfriend into stopping into the Verizon store while we were out and about the other day. After poking around a few of the displays, (I had actually gone in specifically to look at the new Samsung Glyde) I found exactly what I was looking for: the LG XV6800. As I mentioned, I’d gone in looking for the Glyde after seeing some commercials for it, but the reality of the phone was not quite what I’d hoped it would be. (The deal-breaker for me was that the phone did take a memory card, and didn’t appear to have any physical means for transferring data.) So, realizing this wasn’t going to be the phone for me, I looked around at some of the other PDA phones they had on display. Lo and Behold, I spotted the XV6800. Now, already, this phone had some major sticking points in it’s favor. My last two phones have both been LGs, and I have loved each of them immensely. The other thing in the 6800’s favor was that two friends of mine had both had older versions of the phone, which I had played with, and they both spoke highly of them.

After fiddling with the display for a grand total of 1.03 seconds, I was in love. I must have this phone! I will have this phone!

So, I’m going to do some financial finagling and see what I can do. :)
